I'd liken Facebook to high school where you're all jammed in with students. Some of whom you know well, some you don't know well, and some who you just heard of from others. You're all crammed into classrooms hearing each other speak over top of one another. There's loud announcments on the intercom at the same time. It's noisy, busy, and intrusive.

Now Google+ is like a university where you can pick the course you want to take and follow. The conversations are elegant and flow smoothly. We don't have the loud brash interruptions of your feed. We can choose to attend the course of whatever professor we'd like. Just more sane, more controlled and more civil in other words.

Great metaphor by the way with the park!

Re: My Social Media Metaphor

Ha! Funny, when I was forming this post, I was actually considering whether to write it as an analogy or metaphor, but then I decided I didn't want it to sound like an SAT question. Thanks for the comment!

Re: My Social Media Metaphor

oh...metaphor I mean (didn't know the diff until I googled it ;)

Re: My Social Media Metaphor

I hate analogies but I love this one. rIght on. Yes, I enjoy my Xoom as well and even better now that it just updated to Jelly Bean (will be writing a review of that soon). As far as music replacement, I have to say that I LOVE Google Music (or Play Music, or whatever they're calling it now). If you haven't played with it, when you log into the website, www.google.com/music it will have an option to download the Music Manager (I believe that's what it's called). With this, you can sync iTunes, or Windows Media Player, or any other music folder on your computer and it will pull it all into Google's cloud. Now, be forewarned that the 1st time it will take DAYS, maybe even a week to pull everything in, but once it's there, it's there. Then you can open any Android device (Xoom, Nexus 7, phone, etc) and your laptop (or any other computer) and as long as you have an internet connection, you have access to all your music. If you ever are worried about not having an internet connection, you can prep by telling it to make songs/albums/playlists available offline. Which speaking of playlists, it pulls those over from iTunes as well. One exception to note is that if you purchased music on iTunes with DRM licensing, then it may not pull those songs over, or at least that's the pattern I've noticed. But, I've used the Google Play Store to purchase any music I want these days and it's instantly available on all my devices. And, if you use Google+, you can also share music to let your Circles play a song or album for free. Hope that helps you. In my car, my phone has replaced my Garmin and now my iPod (run it through the aux jack). Sometimes I use Google Music and sometimes I listen to podcasts on Google Listen (and most podcast subscriptions carry over from iTunes to Google Music too, although it throws it in the same Music folder, which I don't like). If you find something else you like, please share it here.

Re: My Social Media Metaphor

Really interesting post, Nick! I tweeted it and will share on Google+ as well.

Re: My Dream Tablet

I have the original Xoom and it has been a great tablet. I use it everyday at work when I'm not in the office as my laptop substitute. All of the above looks great to me. I agree the 7" tabs are better as an e reader/kids tablet. I'm looking at buying a Nexus 7 for my kids. On a different note, the only thing that keeps me having an ipod is itunes and my music collection. What should I do to replace/migrate away from itunes? I have a HP Probook laptop/Xoom Tab/Droid phone.

Re: Android and Me Part 1

iPhones rule!
